What Serany thinks about this poem

Meaning

A long run of ways to love somebody: like clouds remembered from childhood, like a father playing music in the next room, like blackberries on a worn garden fence. Then it asks to be loved back without pretence, and to remember to do it while tired and frightened. It ends at a graveside with the rain going on around everybody.

Who's it for

A partner, in the fullest thing he has written about being married to somebody. Right for a family who want the reading to be about the love rather than the death.

Are you planning a funeral?

A Serany website keeps the whole funeral in one place: the plans and the details, who is coming, flowers and donations, and somewhere for everyone who knew them to leave a memory.
