What Serany thinks about this poem

Meaning

A young man who knows he is dying spends his last words reassuring the woman he is leaving. The hard part was never his own death, he says, but leaving her here, and he means to go out with his chin up.

Who's it for

A husband or wife who knew it was coming and spent the last of it looking after everybody else. Right for a young death, where the person who died did most of the comforting.
