What Serany thinks about this poem

Meaning

A man arrives in the afterlife and is asked how it went. He says it was rubbish: working every day, never a penny spare, somebody always twisting the knife. Then whoever is asking shows him the trees and the people dressed in black grieving for him, and tells him his life was never a treasure hunt because the treasure was him.

Who's it for

Someone who never believed their own life amounted to much, read out to the room that turned up for them. Right where the family want to tell him what he was worth.
