What Serany thinks about this poem

Meaning

Everything looks sharper on the way to a funeral. He finds himself studying the thickness of another man's shirt, wondering whether it was a Christmas present from a daughter, and hoping the man held her face and thanked her properly for it. Thirteen years, he says, of a shirt.

Who's it for

A funeral that makes the mourners look at each other properly. Right for a service where the family want the room to go home and say something.

Are you planning a funeral?

A Serany website keeps the whole funeral in one place: the plans and the details, who is coming, flowers and donations, and somewhere for everyone who knew them to leave a memory.
